The head of XBOX, Asha Sharma, during a meeting held on Friday (May 29) to present their summer presentation, also addressed the issue of the PlayStation logo appearing during game showcases.
In the official podcast, the head of content, Matt Booty, responded to a question about the transparency of titles being released. Typically, presentations like Sony's State of Play and Nintendo's Direct avoid using the logos of other companies in trailers for first-party games. XBOX has started to break this trend in recent years, moving towards releasing games on multiple platforms and not shying away from displaying the PlayStation or Nintendo logos.
"We will be completely clear about where each game is coming from and on which platform, and we will continue down that path. I think we have a good system and we will present it through the showcase," Booty said.
Of course, this statement sparked anger among fans who said that the XBOX Games Showcase should focus on its own platforms instead of rivals. Noted XBOX influencer Klobrille wrote: "I think the least expectation was for Xbox to focus on its own platforms, at least during the presentation."
It seems this topic has reached the very top, i.e., to President Sharma, who issued a public apology and said she would consider the situation: "I have seen the feedback regarding the logos. That was a misstep and my fault; we are currently discussing how to change future XBOX events."
It appears not everyone agrees with her response, as content director GLHF's Kirk McKeand wrote: "I'm not sure that a pivot based on the whims of a handful of militant fans is a good idea."
IGN's Ryan McCaffrey added: "Is what Sony is doing good for gamers? They pretend the game doesn't exist on other platforms during their presentation when it does. Who does that help?
