Black Ops remasters leaked through the Korean rating board?

Activision confirmed crossplay between the PS4 and PS5 versions of Black Ops 1 and 2.

Home / News / Activision confirmed crossplay between the PS4 and PS5 versions of Black Ops 1 and 2.

After initial confusion, the publisher confirmed that players on both PlayStation consoles can play multiplayer together, regardless of the system generation.

Activision has clarified one of the biggest uncertainties following the release of the ports of Call of Duty: Black Ops and Call of Duty: Black Ops II for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5.

The company officially confirmed that both titles support crossplay between PS4 and PS5 players, meaning that owners of both consoles can play online multiplayer together.

The ports were digitally released on July 9, bringing the legendary Call of Duty titles from 2010 and 2012 for the first time to modern PlayStation consoles. However, immediately after the release, many players noticed that users of the PS4 and PS5 versions could not find each other in matchmaking, leading to doubts that crossplay was not supported at all. After numerous community inquiries, Activision confirmed via the official Call of Duty Updates profile that crossplay between PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 versions is active, thus resolving one of the biggest ambiguities regarding the new ports.

The company also clarified another frequently reported issue. Owners of the Season Pass can now connect normally with players who do not own it, which also did not function as intended in the early days after the release. It is important to emphasize that this support applies exclusively to the PlayStation ecosystem. Players on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 can play together, but it is not possible to connect with the original PS3 versions, nor is there cross-platform support for Xbox or PC.

The reason is simple – the current ports have been released only for PlayStation consoles, while the original Xbox versions are available through Microsoft's backward compatibility support.

Although the ports of Black Ops 1 and 2 have sparked numerous discussions due to their high price and very modest technical improvements, Activision continues to address initial issues. Support for crossplay between PS4 and PS5 is certainly good news for the community as it increases the number of active players and makes it easier to find online matches in the two most beloved installments of the entire Call of Duty series.
