Just a few days after its release, players are reporting hackers, exploitation of bugs, and issues that have plagued the original PS3 versions for years.

The return of Call of Duty: Black Ops and Call of Duty: Black Ops II on PlayStation was supposed to be a nostalgic journey into the golden age of the series. Instead, numerous players are reporting serious issues with cheaters and exploiting bugs within the first few days.

The ports for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5, released on July 9, seem to have retained some of the problems that have plagued the original versions on PlayStation 3 for years.

On Reddit, social media, and YouTube, there have been numerous examples of players using various exploits to quickly gain XP and reach the maximum 15 prestige. One of the most widespread methods involves editing PS4 saves, after which players enter Domination matches and intentionally kill themselves immediately upon spawning to collect huge amounts of XP in a very short time. An even more serious problem affects players who find themselves in a match with hacked users. According to numerous reports, killing certain cheaters can result in the awarding of a huge amount of negative XP, causing the profile to drop to a negative level. Since online play requires at least level one, affected players are practically left without access to multiplayer.

The situation has become so serious that Activision has confirmed that it has temporarily disabled certain multiplayer modes while investigating the reported issues. Although the company did not specify which playlists are affected, Domination and Demolition, as well as Domination within Ground War, have been disabled in the game, modes where the exploit is most commonly used.

This turn of events did not surprise veterans of the series too much. The same problems have been present for years in the original Xbox 360 and PS3 versions of Black Ops, which is why many warned before the release that, without serious technical interventions, the same flaws could be transferred to the new PlayStation ports.

Unfortunately, that is exactly what happened.

Given that the ports already faced criticism upon release for their high price, lack of graphical improvements, and absence of additional features, the cheating issues have further tarnished the impression. It remains to be seen how quickly Activision will manage to resolve the situation, but part of the community is not too optimistic, reminding that the same exploits in older versions of the games were never fully removed.
