This year there aren't enough games ready for the fair.

THQ Nordic will not participate in Gamescom 2026, which will take place from August 26 to 30, 2026, in Cologne. As reported by GamesWirtschaft, the Vienna-based publisher has confirmed that it is skipping the largest European gaming fair this year because it currently does not have enough titles that, in their estimation, are ready for a classic presentation at a large exhibition stand. This is an interesting decision, especially since THQ Nordic has had quite impressive appearances in previous years, including presentations of Gothic 1 Remake, SpongeBob SquarePants: Titans of Tide, and Reanimal.

The reason is not dramatic, but rather practical. Reanimal and Gothic 1 Remake have already been released, while other titles such as Titan Quest 2, Wreckfest 2, Fatekeeper, and Way of the Hunter 2 are already in Early Access or have available demo versions, so players can access them without going to Cologne. THQ Nordic openly states that Gamescom is a significant expense within the marketing budget and that each year it must be assessed whether such an appearance is worthwhile and if it can be converted into actual game sales.

However, the publisher is not closing the door on a return. They wish all players a good time at the fair and remind fans of their own digital showcase scheduled for August 7, 2026. In other words, THQ Nordic will not be physically present at Gamescom 2026, but it clearly wants to shift its communication this year to a more controlled digital format.
