Set sail like it's 2013!

Thirteen years have passed since we first took the helm of the Jackdaw, sang along with the crew, and sailed the Caribbean as Edward Kenway. Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag from 2013 is still considered the best pirate experience ever released, and one of the best entries in the entire franchise. Ubisoft is bringing it back on July 9th, and as a complete remake.

Resynced ditches the RPG mechanics and steers the helm back to the roots of the series. This is not a game with levels and builds, but a pirate adventure, just as you remember it, only prettier and more modern.

Resynced is built on the latest version of the Anvil engine, which powers Assassin's Creed Shadows. Ubisoft claims that the game contains not a single line of code from the original 2013 version. Everything is new, from character models to the lighting system.

On PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X, the game aims for modern performance options, including a 60 fps mode, while the PS5 Pro additionally utilizes PSSR 2 technology. The PC version will arrive on Ubisoft Store, Steam, and Epic Games Store, with support for current upscaling and frame generation technologies and special settings for handheld devices.

The core of the game remains familiar: Edward Kenway is still at the center of the story, and Black Flag Resynced remains focused on a single-player adventure. There is no multiplayer, and the modern Abstergo sequences from the original have been replaced with new scenes that delve deeper into Edward's memories.

Ubisoft is also adding new content. Blackbeard and Stede Bonnet receive expanded stories, three new officers that you can recruit to the Jackdaw are introduced, each with their own abilities in naval battles, and a new scene between Edward and his wife Caroline is announced, further deepening his background.

For returning players, there is also a nice treat: Matt Ryan, the original voice of Edward Kenway, is returning to the role. The music is handled by French artist Woodkid, who brings new compositions and sea shanties.

Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced releases on July 9, 2026, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. Alongside the standard edition, Deluxe and Collector’s editions have been announced, with the collector's edition featuring a figurine of Edward Kenway, a metal brooch, a SteelBook, a cloth map, and other extras.

If Resynced manages to retain what made the original so beloved while modernizing the parts that have aged over time, Ubisoft could have one of the more interesting nostalgia returns this year.
