The Remake of the End of the Greatest RPG of All Time may seem daunting at first glance due to its lengthy title, but it is actually a JRPG exploratory puzzle game that stylistically resembles classics like Final Fantasy and others. The Coin Drop Games team aims to create something unique with this debut title.

Development team: Coin Drop Games, Lucas Immanuel

Publisher: Coin Drop Games

Platform: PC

Release: May 28, 2026

A story, but somewhat unusual

The Remake of the End of the Greatest RPG of All Time is a deductive puzzle game set in the last hour of a lost and non-existent JRPG title from the 90s, utilizing original instructions, comments, and videos from the team who aim to answer the question: What is the greatest RPG title of all time? Additionally, during random moments, you encounter battles and meet a character named Quizzard who asks you questions based on what you learn during conversations with your companions or characters you meet. The goal of the game is also to overturn everything you thought you knew about video games and erase the boundaries between reality and dreams.

Enchanting visual appearance

What immediately caught my eye when launching the game was the enchanting visual appearance that exudes nostalgia and takes you back to the era of the Final Fantasy series, Chrono Trigger, and Secret of Mana. The instructions used during the game resemble a notebook filled with various drawings on the pages that reveal more about the character itself or certain weaknesses when it comes to the type of enemy in front of you.

Simple gameplay

The gameplay of The Remake of the End of the Greatest RPG of All Time is very straightforward; with the character Rose and her companions, you navigate various spaces where you can meet new characters, find boxes to store valuable items, or discover new pages of instructions that will complete the story. Combat is turn-based, and you have three attacks at your disposal (one regular and two special) as well as the option to use a potion to restore some health to your character. Where the game truly shines is in reminding you that some things are better put on paper, as you never know when they might come in handy as a reminder or to prevent you from getting stuck in your progress.

Touching documentary

As I mentioned earlier, during the game, you come across various pages that reveal more information about the story and characters, but there are also audio and video clips showing how the development of this title progressed, clearly indicating that the team has considerable experience in this genre, which is evident from the first frames featuring copies of Final Fantasy VII for PlayStation 1 and Dragon Quest for Nintendo DS. Things like this documentary are always fun to see, as they showcase the passion and desire that indie development teams possess, sometimes creating titles that can overshadow those from larger companies.

Who is this title for?

This game may be harder to recommend to players who haven't played some of the classic JRPGs, but I definitely believe they should give this title a chance. Gamers who are veterans of this genre will feel at home and face a new challenge that will stimulate their brain cells.

Conclusion

Coin Drop Games and Immanuel have managed to create a project that is innovative, yet still contains some elements of the genre we are well accustomed to. The puzzles are excellently crafted, and I must commend the team for encouraging players to think instead of just walking around and pressing the same buttons.

The Remake of the End of the Greatest RPG of All Time is available on Steam for a price of €8.77 until June 11, 2026, after which the price will be €9.75.
