Final Fantasy 16 has received an unusual version in the form of a 16-bit demake, which transforms the modern action RPG into a game reminiscent of the older installments of the series.
The project's author, known by the nickname xvibit, created a version with pixel art graphics, chiptune music, turn-based combat, an overworld, and a party system. The project was initially conceived as an FF6 ROM hack, but ultimately developed into a standalone game in RPG Maker.
The demake does not cover the entire Final Fantasy 16, but only the initial part of the game. The author currently has no plans to complete the full version, primarily due to the amount of work and potential legal complications. The project took about a year and nine months to create.
