Treyarch listened to the players: Classic mode in Black Ops 7 will remain permanent.

Home / News / Treyarch listened to the players: Classic mode in Black Ops 7 will remain permanent.

One of the currently most popular mods in the game is here to stay, and Season 4 Reloaded brings four legendary multiplayer maps.

When the community speaks loudly enough, sometimes the developers really listen.

Treyarch has officially confirmed that the Classic mode in Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 will no longer be a temporary playlist, but will become a permanent part of the game. The decision comes just a few weeks after players massively requested that the mode remain available even after the end of the fourth season.

Classic was introduced as part of Season 4 as a sort of return to older Call of Duty titles. It removes numerous modern movement mechanics such as Omnimovement, wall running, tactical sprinting, and sliding, making the combat slower, clearer, and much closer to the experience offered by older Black Ops titles. Additionally, Classic also limits some equipment. Overclock abilities, Combat Specialties perks, and some advanced Scorestreaks have been removed, which shifts the focus back to precise shooting, positioning, and map awareness.

This approach has proven to be exactly what a large part of the community has been hoping for.

Due to the mode's great popularity, Treyarch is now turning it into a permanent playlist, meaning it will be available at all times, without the fear of it disappearing with the next weekly update.

But that's not the only news.

With the arrival of Season 4 Reloaded on June 25, the Classic mode will also receive four well-known multiplayer maps:

  • Launch (Black Ops)

  • Fringe (Black Ops III)

  • Hacienda (Black Ops 4)

  • Gridlock (Black Ops 4)

Of the listed maps, only Launch is coming to Black Ops 7 for the first time, while the others have already been available in the game.

The success of Classic could have broader implications for the future of the series.

Numerous players have already requested that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 receive a similar gameplay style. Although the new Modern Warfare will abandon the Omnimovement system and wall running, it will retain sliding, climbing over obstacles, and a completely new edge-holding system.

Honestly, the success of Classic only confirms what many Call of Duty veterans have been saying for years. More modern does not necessarily mean better. The return to a simpler, clearer, and more tactical multiplayer has clearly hit the core of what a large part of the community has been hoping for. Perhaps the Classic mode is the best indicator that Call of Duty does not need to constantly chase new mechanics to remain fun.
