HoYoverse, a company known for games like Genshin Impact, Honkai: Star Rail, and Zenless Zone Zero, is reportedly planning a major investment in artificial intelligence. According to available information, the company could invest up to $14.6 billion over the next three years in the development of its own AI tools and internal technological infrastructure.
The plan was reportedly presented by co-founder Liu Wei during a private technology and recruitment event held on May 15, 2026. HoYoverse aims not only to use existing external models but to develop its own system that would include GPU clusters, model training systems, and application architecture tailored to the studio's needs.
AI is expected to be used for internal development tools, production automation, content generation, support for live-service games, and more advanced NPC behavior. One of the projects where such technology could play a more significant role is Petit Planet, an upcoming life sim game featuring AI NPC characters.
This move demonstrates how major publishers are increasingly treating artificial intelligence as part of future production infrastructure, rather than just an additional tool for specific tasks.
