The virtual expo InterfaceX26 is dedicated to so-called Fake OS games, titles whose key mechanics are based on simulating a real device or operating system. These are games that mimic desktop interfaces, mobile phones, browsers, consoles, and similar, which is why players also know them by names like Interface Sims, Interface Dramas, Desktop/Phone Sims, or Found Device Games.
More than 150 developers and indie studios have gathered around a common goal: to name the genre by adding the hashtag "Fake OS" on Steam, making the games more accessible and recognizable to players. Along with a coordinated tagging action, the event also brings a weekly sale and a live showcase featuring premieres of brand new titles.
The showcase was streamed live on May 2, 2026, hosted by Kurt Indovina and Lucy James from GameSpot, with participation from well-known streamers Jesse Cox, Dodger, Nookrium, and Stormfall33. The IX26 Showcase featured 30 games and trailers, with titles that attracted the most attention including Shutter Story, Bedrotting Simulator, My Helpers, and Let's Build a Dungeon.
The expo is rich in diverse genres, from horror experiences and narrative adventures to detective titles, and many games are already available as demo versions or for adding to wish lists via the official event page!
For those just discovering the genre, it's worth recalling some classics that laid its foundations: the dark Simulacra, the disturbing Orwell: Keeping An Eye On You, and the award-winning Her Story. Currently, there are over 100 Fake OS games on sale on Steam. The selection is large, and the opportunity is rare. Putting aside the cliché: you really shouldn't miss this if you're looking forward to innovative indie titles!
