Dead Astronauts has presented its debut co-op survival shooter set in a cold wilderness engulfed by paranormal fog.

The Swedish studio Dead Astronauts, consisting of former veterans from Massive Entertainment and Epic Games, presented its debut title HAEX during the Summer Game Fest. It is an atmospheric multiplayer survival shooter from the first-person perspective, set in the subarctic Nordic wilderness marked by an alien anomaly and a dangerous paranormal fog.

HAEX can be played solo or in cooperation with up to three players. After a helicopter crash, players wake up as part of a scientific expedition and set out to search for missing team members. Survival will depend not only on combat but also on managing cold, hunger, thirst, resources, and preparing equipment before each deeper entry into the fog.

Enemies include alien creatures and machines, and combat combines firearms, heavy melee weapons, and specialized survival gadgets. Particularly interesting are the alien seeds that players can find or craft, which, when planted, alter parts of the open world, opening new paths and access to resources.

Character progression carries over between sessions, while characters and worlds are saved separately, meaning each world retains its own state and story. The release date and platforms have not yet been announced.
