Starfield is not dead.

Bethesda Game Studios has confirmed that development and support for Starfield will not be ending anytime soon. The space RPG has attracted over 17 million players since its release, who have collectively spent nearly a billion hours in the game.

The studio states that Starfield remains an important part of its future. During the third year of support, the game is expected to receive new stories, targeted gameplay improvements, and additional updates. Bethesda is simultaneously preparing for the release of new content dedicated to Starborn, which has been announced for next year, specifically 2027. Details have not yet been released, so it is unclear whether this will be a full expansion or a different form of additional content.

New Starfield content arrives in 2027

A large part of the future support will again be tied to the Creations system. According to Bethesda's data, more than 40 percent of players are already using modifications and other content available through this platform. The studio therefore plans to continue investing in creators and offer additional ways to customize the game.

Starfield already received a major free update Free Lanes during 2026, which allowed for freer travel between planets within the same system, added new space encounters, locations, and upgrade options for equipment, ships, and Starborn abilities. Bethesda has not yet revealed when we will learn more about the next phase of development, but the message is quite clear: Starfield has not yet been abandoned in the infinite vacuum of space.
