Subnautica 2 has already achieved enormous commercial success in its Early Access phase. Developer Unknown Worlds Entertainment announced that the game sold over two million copies within the first 12 hours of its release, with the first million reached within the first hour of sales.

The game entered Early Access on May 14, 2026, for Xbox Series X/S and PC via Steam, Epic Games Store, and Microsoft Store, and is also available through Game Pass. According to available data, Subnautica 2 remains at the top of the global Steam best-selling games chart.

The numbers of active players are impressive as well. Subnautica 2 recorded over 651 thousand concurrent players on Steam, Epic Games Store, and Xbox Series X/S consoles, while Steam alone reached over 467 thousand players. This is multiple times higher than the record of the original Subnautica.

The sequel brings a new alien underwater environment, enhanced graphics in Unreal Engine 5, and for the first time in the series, an optional cooperative gameplay mode for up to four players.
