Nine Dots Studio has announced that Outward 2 will be released in Early Access on July 7, 2026, for PC via Steam, Epic Games Store, and GOG. Players will be able to try the sequel earlier through a closed beta starting on May 26, 2026.
Outward 2 returns players to Aurai, a harsh fantasy world where the player is not the chosen hero, but an ordinary adventurer who must carefully plan every step. Preparation, equipment management, setting traps, and making thoughtful decisions are once again at the heart of the experience, and even defeat does not mean the end of the adventure, but a continuation of the journey with consequences.
The sequel brings three starting scenarios, eleven character backgrounds, a larger and more vibrant world with a seasonal cycle, an advanced combat system, ritual spellcasting, and a new Exercise system through which passive skills develop according to playstyle. Special emphasis is also placed on inventory, so the backpack remains an important part of survival, while players will later be able to acquire a mule for carrying additional equipment.
Outward 2 will support local split-screen and online co-op for two players, meaning that exploring Aurai will once again be possible in the company of friends. Nine Dots Studio states that the sequel aims to upgrade everything that worked in the original, with better character creation, a more convincing world, higher quality storytelling, and refined combat.
