CD Projekt Red will be present at Gamescom 2026!

CD Projekt's Vice President Michal Nowakowski confirmed during an audio web broadcast that early plans anticipated the expansion's release this year, but the studio decided to push the release to 2027. Nevertheless, CD Projekt still plans to release smaller content during 2026 that is already in advanced production, although it is not a project of the same scale as Songs of the Past.

Nowakowski specifically emphasized that Songs of the Past is not a small addition, but “a real, big expansion.” He compared its scope to Blood and Wine, the well-known and highly regarded expansion for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt from 2016.

The studio does not directly describe the expansion as a prologue for The Witcher 4, but Nowakowski acknowledges that it can be seen as a kind of reminder of the world of The Witcher and a way to maintain interest in the series before the arrival of the new major game. However, he stressed that the main goal is to deliver a quality and enjoyable experience to existing fans of The Witcher.

CD Projekt RED announced that more details about Songs of the Past will be shared during Gamescom. Gamescom 2026 will take place from August 26 to August 30, 2026, in Cologne, which means fans could get a more concrete look at Geralt's return in The Witcher 3 at that time.

Nowakowski also reflected on the future of the new Witcher series. According to earlier plans, CD Projekt aims to release three new Witcher games within six years, which is why it is currently uncertain whether the upcoming trilogy will have large expansions like those for The Witcher 3.

Additionally, it has been confirmed that the mobile project that CD Projekt is developing in collaboration with Scopely will not be ready for 2026. The company also has two unannounced gaming projects in a capitalized, or more advanced stage of development, as well as one unannounced project that is not related to video games.
