The Sinking City 2 is set to release on August 18, 2026, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC via Steam, Epic Games Store, and GOG. The Ukrainian studio Frogwares is preparing the sequel as a Lovecraftian survival horror set in Arkham, a city struck by a supernatural flood and left to decay, cults, and monsters.
The main character of the sequel is Calvin Rafferty, an occult adventurer whose failed ritual has left his girlfriend Faye trapped in a mysterious dream. Because of this, Calvin embarks through the flooded streets of Arkham in an attempt to bring her back, while simultaneously having to fight against twisted creatures known as Slither, which take over the dead and turn them into dangerous puppets.
Unlike the first part, The Sinking City 2 leans more heavily into survival horror. Players will use weapons inspired by the 1920s, engage in close combat, explore abandoned hospitals, decaying mansions, and flooded markets, while also keeping an eye on limited supplies and inventory space. Exploration remains an important part of the game, along with additional cases, puzzles, secrets, upgrades, and details that expand the story.
A demo is already available on PC, lasting about an hour and covering the beginning of the game. The demo introduces Calvin Rafferty, showcases the first parts of Arkham, and provides an early glimpse into the atmosphere, combat, and direction in which Frogwares is taking the sequel. Our positive impressions can be read here.
The studio has stated that development has been extremely difficult due to the war in Ukraine, power outages, air alerts, and the constant need for adaptation, but they are proud to have brought the game to a stage where its release is finally in sight.
