The Italian indie studio Beatrate has announced Weather the Swarm, a sci-fi 2D roguelike set to arrive on Steam in the first half of 2027. Versions for Xbox, PlayStation, and Nintendo Switch are planned for a later date. The game combines classic run ’n’ gun action with a constantly available jetpack, procedurally generated levels, and fully destructible environments through which players will navigate solo or with up to three friends. Each biome consists of four levels and a final boss battle, the defeat of which will unlock the path to a new and more challenging planet.
During each attempt, players will choose one of three randomly offered perks and find weapons and abilities of varying rarities, including machine guns, flamethrowers, an invisibility cloak, and healing capsules. Shops will allow for equipment upgrades and unlocking additional passive abilities, but prolonged exploration will carry additional risk as the Swarm will attack in increasingly powerful waves of aliens at regular intervals. Weather the Swarm will support local play for up to four players, as well as Steam Remote Play Together, allowing the whole group to play using just one copy of the game.
