Mojang has announced that after 17 years, it is increasing the system requirements for the PC version of Minecraft. This will affect owners of the Java edition, and the reason given is that the game will soon transition from OpenGL to Vulkan API, which makes it more difficult to play on older configurations.
Instead of 2 GB of RAM as before, you will now need 8 GB (with a dedicated GPU) to 12 GB (with an integrated GPU) for minimum and 16 GB instead of 4 GB for recommended. The new system requirements for Minecraft will look like this:
Minimum for 1080p, 30 fps, Fast settings:
Processor: Intel Core i3-10100 / AMD Ryzen 3 3100 / Qualcomm Snapdragon X / Apple M1
Graphics: Nvidia GeForce GTX 950 / AMD Radeon RX 460 / Intel Arc A310 / Intel i5-6400 (iGPU)
Memory: 8 GB (dedicated GPU), 12 GB (integrated graphics)
Recommended for 1080p, 60 fps, Fancy settings:
Processor: Intel Core i5-12400 / AMD Ryzen 5 5600 / Apple M2 Pro
