Square Enix has released a new five-minute trailer for Final Fantasy XIV: Evercold expansion, which is set to launch in January 2027. They also revealed details about a new profession and locations we will visit. Nintendo Switch 2 owners can look forward to the game releasing next Tuesday (August 4, 2026), and pre-orders are already open; just a reminder that subscriptions from other versions do not transfer to Switch 2 and Switch Online will not be required for gameplay.
Final Fantasy XIV: Evercold will take us to three different locations and will mark the beginning of a new saga called Goddless Realms Saga, which will place our characters in new adventures.
At the traditional Final Fantasy Fan Festival 2026 event held this year in Berlin, the game's producer and director Naoki Yoshida introduced a new profession called Bastion in a special panel. It is a tank with two large shields known as skyltborg. Yoshida also revealed changes that will affect the story, character skills, and dungeons.
It was revealed that the game will also feature an interesting collaboration with the legendary anime and manga series Evangelion called Ghosts of Desire. It was also disclosed that there will be a collaboration with the Final Fantasy VII Remake series named Beyond the Lifestream.
