The Ukrainian studio Frogwares has officially confirmed that The Sinking City 2 will arrive in the summer of 2026 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam, Epic Games Store, and GOG. Along with the release date announcement, a new gameplay trailer was presented, revealing a significantly darker and horror-focused approach compared to the original game.
Unlike the first game, which was heavily oriented towards investigations and detective gameplay, the sequel shifts more towards survival horror elements. Combat, exploration, and resource management now play a much larger role, while investigations will still exist, but as an additional layer of gameplay rather than the main focus of the experience.
The story is again inspired by the works of H. P. Lovecraft, but this time it takes players to a flooded Arkham during the 1920s. The city is filled with supernatural threats, grotesque monsters, and decaying locations that players will explore on foot and by boat.
Game director Alexander Gresko stated that the development team wanted to create a "more complete survival horror" and that the studio is satisfied with the progress made during the game's development.
The Sinking City 2 is being developed in Unreal Engine 5, and Frogwares emphasizes that this is their largest and most ambitious project to date. It is worth noting that the original The Sinking City from 2019 gained a large fan base due to its atmosphere and Lovecraftian interpretation of detective gameplay, although players often criticized the combat system.
The exact release date has not yet been confirmed, but the launch is currently planned for the summer of 2026.
