Nex and SEGA have announced a new collaboration that will bring Sonic the Hedgehog to Nex Playground through the game Sonic Forces (working title), planned for release later this year. This is an active system for family gaming, so Sonic will this time be adapted to a motion-controlled experience rather than a classic controller. Nex emphasizes that Sonic's arrival is a result of strong demand from their community, but also part of the celebration of the 35th anniversary of the Sonic franchise, one of the most recognizable series in the history of video games.
The development is handled by SEGA's HARDlight Studios, a team known for mobile Sonic titles such as Sonic Dream Team, Sonic Dash, and Sonic Forces. The new version is expected to convey the familiar speed, running, and action rhythm of the series into a physically active experience aimed at families and younger players. Sonic Forces (working title) will be available through the Play Pass subscription, which is sold separately and currently includes over 60 active games, ranging from sports and dance to fitness and educational experiences.
