Highway Police Simulator is yet another video game where you take on the role of a police officer, developed by Z-Software and Aerosoft GmbH, who are also responsible for Autobahn Police Simulator. The beautiful landscapes of Germany are replaced here with those of the USA and its highways that bring great risks.

Crime never sleeps

Highway Police Simulator is set in the fictional American region of Caminora and shows us what a typical day in a police uniform looks like. Throughout the story, we solve cases related to drug trafficking, robberies, chases, shootings, and even traffic accidents. Random missions like traffic accidents were very entertaining, as you have to check every detail of the cars and documents, and you can also conduct drug and alcohol tests, with animations often being very amusing as you watch characters trying to prove they are sober. A rich progression system allows you to give your character new skills or unlock a range of other police vehicles, as well as those for civilian tasks.

In the shadow of optimization and camera

What makes this title somewhat of a poor experience is the optimization. Unfortunately, during gameplay, I encountered various drops in fps, and NPC characters often do not move in traffic when the siren is on. Also, the character's movement sometimes caused fps drops, and the camera did not help either, as it can cause dizziness if you have a weak stomach.

Gameplay without surprises

I entered this title without any high expectations regarding gameplay and expected it to be easy to adapt after Autobahn Police Simulator. The gameplay is okay for a simulator, and there isn't much to say. The shooting is generally well done; the only negative is how quickly you run out of bullets, allowing enemies to quickly surround you and send you back to repeat the mission.

A rich world

Highway Police Simulator also allows you to freely drive through the cities and highways of Caminora, where you can encounter various items to collect and even buy (donuts), and each city has points you can use for fast travel if you want to reduce driving time or don't want to walk too much.

Visual appearance

The visual appearance of the characters and cars is well done and looks much better than that in Autobahn Police Simulator. My only complaint is that the voice actors sound like they are tired or forced to act, and their lines are delivered without emotion and in a hurry. The environment is also of acceptable appearance considering it is a smaller title.

Additional content

The reviewed version came with a key for the standard game as well as a key for the only additional content titled Highway Police Simulator: S.W.A.T. - Caminora Police, which brings additional special police equipment, a van, and seven new missions exclusively related to special police cases.

Conclusion

Highway Police Simulator, despite certain issues, is definitely a title worth trying purely for the story and the opportunity to collect additional items you encounter along the way. I believe the team should definitely consider a sequel, which, if the mentioned issues are fixed, could potentially become a new indie hit.
