Following the increasing success of film and television adaptations of video games, another well-known Xbox series is set to receive its big-screen version. This is the pirate multiplayer adventure Sea of Thieves, developed by Rare, which will be adapted into a live-action film.
According to information from Entertainment Weekly, the project will be produced by Destin Daniel Cretton through his production company Hisako. Cretton is known for his work on the film Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings and is also connected to the upcoming film Spider-Man: Brand New Day. The director, cast, and start date for filming are currently unknown.
Interestingly, Sea of Thieves does not have a classic story or main character, but relies on the shared adventures of players, exploring the seas, treasure hunts, and chaotic encounters with other crews. Therefore, the biggest challenge will be to capture the spirit of the game in a film format without losing its distinctive sense of freedom and camaraderie.
