Sony Interactive Entertainment and Santa Monica Studio announced God of War Laufey during last night's State of Play, a new chapter in the well-known action-adventure series. The game is currently confirmed for PlayStation 5, and the release date has not yet been announced.
God of War Laufey puts Laufey, or Faye, the warrior and Kratos' wife, in the spotlight. Death was supposed to be the end for her, but after her own funeral, she wakes up in an unknown world and discovers that the plans she left behind to protect Kratos and Atreus are in jeopardy.
The story will take place in Everywhen, a sort of afterlife world of gods where beings and deities from various mythologies meet. Faye will have to fight against dangerous opponents, uncover the nature of this place, and try to find a way back to those she loves.
Santa Monica Studio promises brutal, intimate combat, exploration of a rich world, and a strong narrative focus. The game will combine elements of the modern God of War combat system with a faster and more fluid feel reminiscent of the earlier era of the series. Faye will be able to move quickly between ground and air, use the legendary blade, and special powers related to souls.
Deborah Ann Woll returns as Faye, while among the new characters will be Phranque, voiced by Jack Quaid, and Rue, played by Perlina Lau. More details about the game will be announced later.
