New Approach to Mobile Gaming
FlipPad was first showcased at CES 2026, and is now available for pre-order through the 8BitDo store. The controller connects via a USB-C port and opens like a flip phone, covering the bottom part of the screen and offering a solution for games played vertically.
8BitDo states that the flip mechanism has been tested for over 6,000 openings and closings, suggesting that the device is designed for long-term use. FlipPad is compatible with Android and iPhone devices, and according to information from sources, iOS support has been officially confirmed.
What the Controller Offers
The button layout includes a D-pad, ABXY buttons, Start and Select, as well as six additional white buttons whose purpose is currently unclear. The basic version comes in a retro color combination inspired by the classic Game Boy style, while the EDC Black Edition features an all-black look for the buttons and casing.
The black version will be exclusively available through the 8BitDo online store, while the standard FlipPad is expected to be available through partners and retail channels. This clearly targets both users looking for a practical mobile accessory and an audience that loves retro aesthetics.
Price and Availability
With a suggested price of $29.99, FlipPad is positioned below some direct competitors offering similar functionality. Shipping begins on July 30, and pre-orders are already open.
For the gaming audience, this is an interesting move as 8BitDo continues to expand its range of affordable accessories for mobile gaming. FlipPad may be particularly appealing to retro game players, as well as users looking for a simpler and sleeker solution than larger mobile controllers.
