Not even the year 2026 will pass without a new Call of Duty. Infinity Ward has confirmed that it is working on the next installment of the popular series, and this year's game will be tied to the Modern Warfare line. The studio describes it as the "definitive" Modern Warfare, suggesting an ambitious continuation after the last modern trilogy.
Infinity Ward has stated that a new chapter begins for the studio, emphasizing precision, an obsession with details, and a desire to create a great fun game. Although the official title has not yet been confirmed, it is clear that Call of Duty is returning to the setting that brought the series some of its most famous characters and missions.
The Modern Warfare series has had two major phases so far. The original trilogy was released from 2007 to 2011, while the reboot trilogy started in 2019 and continued through Modern Warfare II and Modern Warfare III. The new installment could open a fresh chapter, rather than directly relying on the conclusion of the previous trilogy.
It has also been confirmed that the new Call of Duty will not be developed for PlayStation 4, finally leaving the previous generation of consoles behind. This likely means that the focus will be on current platforms, including PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
Activision announced at the end of 2025 a change in approach, stating that future Call of Duty titles will no longer line up Modern Warfare and Black Ops releases one after the other, but each year should bring a clearer standalone experience. The official presentation of the new Call of Duty is expected during the summer.
