When it comes to horror games, few creators generate as much interest as Hideo Kojima. After the P.T. project set new standards for psychological horror over a decade ago, the legendary Japanese designer is now returning to the genre with OD, one of the most mysterious projects currently in development.
Today, a new trailer for OD was revealed, a horror title being developed in collaboration with Kojima Productions, director Jordan Peele, and Xbox Game Studios. Since its first announcement, the project has attracted significant attention, with many considering it one of the most ambitious horror titles of this generation. Kojima has previously stated that he wants to explore what it means to "overdose on fear," suggesting that OD will not be a classic horror game, but rather an experience that blurs the lines between film and video game.
The new teaser titled "Knock" emphasizes atmosphere and a sense of unease. Sophia Lillis, an actress known for the film It, stars in the lead role.
The trailer's action takes place in an apparently ordinary apartment, but the situation soon takes a terrifying turn. Lighting candles transforms into an unusual ritual, while knocking at the door, a child's cry, and other disturbing sounds create constant tension. As the trailer progresses, the space becomes increasingly surreal, and the feeling of insecurity intensifies, culminating in the appearance of a mysterious entity that interrupts the ritual.
As with many of Kojima's projects, the most interesting aspect is not what the trailer reveals, but what it conceals. Instead of concrete answers, it leaves viewers with a series of questions and theories. According to the information available so far, OD will utilize advanced cloud technologies and could offer entirely new forms of interaction between players and the game itself.
The visual presentation also leaves a strong impression. Photorealistic character models and detailed facial animations, achieved with the help of Unreal Engine 5, further enhance the sense of realism and discomfort. Sophia Lillis's performance stands out, with her facial animations being among the most striking moments of the entire trailer.
The release date is still unknown, but the latest showcase confirms that the project is actively in development. Although we still know very little about the game itself, one thing is certain – Kojima is once again preparing something completely different from anything we have seen in the horror genre so far.
