Square Enix does not rule out Final Fantasy XV on Nintendo platforms
During a meeting with shareholders, Square Enix responded to a question about the possibility of bringing Final Fantasy XV to the Nintendo Switch 2. The answer is not an official announcement, but it is interesting enough because the company did not dismiss the idea. According to the official translation, Square Enix states that there are certain hardware limitations when it comes to faithfully transferring the experience from Final Fantasy XV, but also adds that such a port is not completely impossible.
This does not mean that the game is in development for the Nintendo Switch 2, but that Square Enix is clearly considering broader platforms for its older Final Fantasy titles. Final Fantasy XV has already been available on the Nintendo Switch, but only through Final Fantasy XV Pocket Edition HD, which is a simplified version of the original game. The full Final Fantasy XV with an open world, road trip structure, and complete Royal Edition content would be a significantly larger technical challenge, but also an important test for future larger Square Enix ports on the Nintendo Switch 2.
Miyamoto wants to bring new Nintendo characters to the world beyond games
Shigeru Miyamoto spoke about expanding Nintendo IPs beyond video games, a topic that has become increasingly important for Nintendo in recent years. Movies, theme parks, mobile apps, and short video content are no longer just an addition to games, but an important part of how Nintendo tries to reach an audience that may not play on their consoles at all.
Miyamoto emphasized that Nintendo does not want to remain solely focused on Super Mario and The Legend of Zelda. The plan is to expand well-known, but also potentially new characters through various formats, including movies and video content. This is an interesting statement as it shows that Nintendo is seriously considering its own characters as long-term brands, rather than just protagonists of individual games. After the success of the Super Mario movie and the expansion of theme parks, it is not hard to imagine that Nintendo will increasingly utilize its franchises outside of the consoles in the coming years.
Mario Kart World received update 1.7.0
Mario Kart World has been updated to version 1.7.0, and the new update brings more than the usual bug fixes. The Knockout Tour mode has added Drill Rally and Boomerang Rally, while the Photo Mode has been expanded with the ability to add stickers. Nintendo also confirmed that more new rallies will be coming in the future.
The update also brings balancing for vehicles and characters. The acceleration performance has been improved for characters and vehicles that had weaker acceleration, the flying speed has been increased for certain characters and vehicles, and numerous changes have been made regarding items, jumps, and collision behavior. Support for the Thai language has also been added. Although this sounds like a technical update on paper, it is clear that Nintendo plans to keep Mario Kart World active through constant improvements and new content.
Mysterious Metroid Ravenous appeared in ratings
One of the more interesting stories this week comes from Brazil, where a rating for a project named Metroid Ravenous reportedly appeared on the website of the Ministry of Justice and Public Security. The rating was soon removed, but a screenshot surfaced online. According to available information, the application was submitted by Nintendo of America, and the platform mentioned is the Nintendo Switch 2.
Nintendo has not officially announced anything yet, so this information should be treated as a rumor. However, the name alone is enough to spark speculation. Since Metroid Prime 4: Beyond has already been released, some fans immediately turned to the possibility that Ravenous could be a new 2D Metroid, or a sort of sequel after Metroid Dread. This is just an assumption for now, but Metroid is a series where even the slightest hint often raises great expectations.
The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered is coming to Nintendo Switch 2 in August
Bethesda has confirmed that The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered will arrive on Nintendo Switch 2 on August 11, 2026. More importantly for collectors, a physical edition has also been confirmed. This means that the base game will be on a cartridge, rather than in the form of a game-key card or code in a box.
The physical Deluxe edition will include the base game, the expansions Shivering Isles and Knights of the Nine, as well as additional content like Fighter’s Stronghold, Spell Tomes, Vile Lair, Mehrune’s Razor, The Thieves Den, Wizard’s Tower, The Orrery, and the famous Horse Armor Pack. The Nintendo Switch 2 version will utilize DLSS, with resolutions announced at 900p at 30 frames per second in handheld mode and 1080p at 30 frames per second in docked mode. Motion controls, touchscreen, and mouse support are also included.
