KOEI TECMO Europe and studio Gust have announced Atelier Karia: The Night Kingdom & the Guide of Memories, a new installment in the long-running Atelier series. The upcoming game is currently in development, with a release planned for early 2027 for Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, PC via Steam, and Xbox Series X/S. Along with the announcement, the first trailer has been released, providing a glimpse into the new adventure, its characters, world, and gameplay systems.
The story will take players back to the continent of Aladiss, an area first introduced in the game Atelier Yumia: The Alchemist of Memories & the Envisioned Land. At the center of the story will be Karia, an alchemist suffering from amnesia who embarks on a journey related to uncovering her own past. Along the way, she will be joined by Servio Lektor, a heretical biologist from a pioneering team, and Fina Rozen, a talented fighter. Together, they will explore the mysterious underground of Aladiss and attempt to uncover its hidden secrets.
Karia will also receive support from Yumia Liessfeldt, an alchemist known from the previous installment, during her adventure. As she develops her alchemical abilities, she will try to regain lost memories, awaken the past, and find her place in the present. Gust continues to connect new characters with already known elements of the series, but this time through a story that will emphasize memories, personal growth, and exploration of the underground world.
One of the unique features of the new installment will be Karia's special ability that combines alchemy and eating. During exploration, players will be able to snack on the ingredients they collect, which will have different effects depending on the type of food. For example, consuming animal-derived ingredients may temporarily give Karia animal ears. Players will also be able to synthesize and eat meals that change Karia's appearance and grant her new abilities useful in combat and exploration.
Alchemy and synthesis will remain at the core of the gameplay, along with a deeper item crafting system that will combine strategy and creativity. Using the alchemical cauldron in the depths of Aladiss, players will create various items by combining the mana of selected ingredients. This way, they will be able to change the effects of synthesized items and create a large number of possible combinations. These items will not only serve for combat but also for exploration, solving challenges, finding hidden treasures, collecting ingredients, and improving the efficiency of bases during construction.
The combat system will build upon the mechanics introduced in Atelier Yumia: The Alchemist of Memories & the Envisioned Land, but will be further refined. Players will be able to parry enemy attacks in real-time, while for tactical planning, they will be able to pause time and select skills and items through a menu. Atelier Karia: The Night Kingdom & the Guide of Memories will feature Japanese voice acting and texts in English, French, German, and Spanish.
