On the occasion of the tenth anniversary of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, CD Projekt Red announced a major upgrade: support for mods on consoles. This functionality will allow players on the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S platforms to create, share and use mods, bringing them closer to the capabilities previously reserved for PC users.
Mods will be available through the mod.io platform, and for access it will be necessary to link a mod.io account with a CD Projekt Red account. While many mods will be available on all platforms, some will remain PC-exclusive due to specific console guidelines and limitations.
Unfortunately, the Nintendo Switch version of the game will not receive this upgrade, but with the upcoming release of the Switch 2 console, there is a possibility that the situation may change. The announcement comes after The Witcher 3 sold more than 60 million copies, making it one of the best-selling games of all time.
An upgrade with mod support is expected later this year, with additional information to be released in the coming months.
