The upcoming film adaptation of Sega's Streets of Rage series has received new screenwriters and a director. As reported by the portal Variety, an early draft of the script was created in 2022 when Lionsgate acquired the rights to film it, and it was written by Derek Kolstad (John Wick).
Unfortunately, Kolstad has left the project, and the script will now be written by Pat Casey and Josh Miller, who are best known for the Sonic the Hedgehog films and are currently also working on the fourth one. Alongside them is director Jaymes Samuel, a songwriter-singer known as The Bullitts, who won a BAFTA in the category of Outstanding Debut by a British Writer, Director or Producer for his debut film The Harder They Fall from 2021.
No further details have been released, but Variety claims that this is an adaptation that will faithfully bring the cult game, its characters, music, and brawling to the big screen. Regarding the world of video games, Sega recently confirmed that it is working on a new Streets of Rage game as well as Crazy Taxi, Jet Set Radio, and Golden Axe.
