A new expansion of the popular MMORPG Guild Wars 2, named Visions of Eternity, is scheduled for release on October 28, 2025. This will be the sixth expansion in the game's history, and ArenaNet announces a combination of deep narrative, system upgrades and fresh mechanics aimed at both hardcore and returning players.
Return to Mists: Castora as a central location
The center of the new story is a mysterious island Castor, a long-lost paradise that harbors the devastating secrets of ley energy. Inquest is once again at the fore, and players are challenged to explore mutated flora and fauna, uncover mystical structures, and avert potential disaster.
On launch day, Visions of Eternity delivers two new open worlds, and an additional two will follow during the next year through free content updates.
Nine new elite specializations: a new era of buildcraft
The biggest gameplay change comes through nine new elite specializations, one for each class. Each specialization brings a completely new approach to class mechanics, in some cases changing core concepts.

- Mesmer – Troubadour: Support spec that uses music motifs instead of shatter mechanics. Focus on buffing allies and rhythmic combat.

Visions of Eternity integrates group PvE content into a new structure. Raid and strike missions are now unified for easier access and reward system. During 2026, the following are coming:
- Two new raid encounters (with challenge and legendary modes)
- New fractal dungeon with challenge mode
Legendary loot and Homestead upgrades
The new expansion brings six new legendary items:
- Three weapons
- Ring and accessory
- Legendary aquabreather (first such in the game)
Owners Janthir Wilds i Visions of Eternity will get access to the exclusive homestead plot on the beach, with the possibility of transferring layouts between locations.
Mount Upgrades: Skimmer gets new depth
Skimmer mount gets new masteries: fast vertical movement, immersion and better maneuvering under water and above magma. Perfect for the topography of Castore.
Post-release development plan
The expansion is designed as a foundation for one year of support:
- Q1 2026: System upgrades (no new maps/story)
- Q2/Q3 2026: New maps, raids, legendary equipment and continuation of the narrative
