During today's Nintendo Direct presentation of upcoming Switch and Switch 2 video games, we also received announcements for games that we wouldn't have believed would be shown even in our wildest dreams. A total of 36 trailers were presented, and in this article, we will mention some of the strangest titles that at times feel like a fever dream!
The first game, quite unexpectedly, was Rhythm Heaven Groove for the original Switch, where the goal is to follow the musical rhythm through a series of short, colorful, and unusual mini-games. Players must press buttons at the right moment, whether they are slicing flying vegetables, bouncing fruit with muscles, flying with birds, or participating in other wacky challenges.
As can be seen from the gameplay trailer, this is a game that looks like a flash title and/or a student project, or a compilation of several smaller games from various developers stitched together in a frankensteinian method into one game. It doesn't seem appealing to us at all, and the reasons why this was the first game shown are unclear.
Big Walk - is that even a game???
Namco Bandai surprised us with a One Piece game that looks like a title for J2ME mobile phones.
After confirming that we hadn't traveled back to 1996, we realized that this is a mobile game that will be released on PC and current consoles on October 23, 2026. And yes, the reason we had déjà vu is due to the development studio Kairosoft working on this game.
What we thought was a new sequel to Splatoon turned out to be Ninjalala 2.
It's pointless to waste any words on a project that looks like a Splatoon clone. And whose first installment reportedly became popular with players.
And finally, it should be mentioned that Square Enix has disappointed us again. After the trailer for Final Fantasy in HD-2D style started, we expected it to be a demake of 3D Final Fantasy games. What we got was an offline version of the first chapter of some mobile Final Fantasy video game whose name we didn't remember, nor is it important to us.
It's really a shame that time, money, and human resources are wasted on such nonsense games. Why don't they simply decide to create quality HD-2D remakes of Final Fantasy 6 and/or Chrono Trigger?
