The first Nintendo Direct in the era of the Switch 2 console presented a combination of new exclusives, remasters, major third-party ports, and a few surprises. Here’s a summary of the most important announcements.
The biggest and most important news, which took the breath away from all Nintendo fans, is the complete remake of the cult N64 classic The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. This is a title that fans have been wishing for years. Nintendo showcased the first trailer with modernized graphics, and the release is confirmed for 2026.
A completely new sequel to the Xenoblade series was also introduced, marking the beginning of a new saga. The release is planned for 2027.
The successor to Wii Sports Resort brings 12 sports, including archery, table tennis, and volleyball. It will be available on October 22.
Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave is set to release on September 17, 2026, and during the presentation, the main characters and combat system were introduced.
The Direct also announced exclusives such as Rhythm Heaven Groove (July 2, 2026), Splatoon Raiders (July 23, 2026), Ninjale 2 (Spring 2027), and a new underwater expansion for Pokopija, which arrives in August 2026.
A major highlight of the Direct was also the immediately available DLC for Donkey Kong Bananzu, which brings exploration of the iconic DK Island, a roguelike mode Emerald Rush, and a series of nostalgic references, costumes, and collectible rewards for long-time fans of the series.
Numerous major third-party titles for Switch 2 were also announced, among which Stellar Blade, Dragon's Dogma 2: Dark Arisen, Metaphor: ReFantazio, Lies of P: Complete Edition, Devil May Cry 5: Devil Hunter Edition, Onimusha: Way of the Sword, and Lords of the Fallen II stand out.
RPG fans will be delighted by the completely new Final Fantasy title, Final Fantasy Resonance, as well as Dragon Quest Monsters: The Withered World and Switch 2 versions of Xenoblade Chronicles 1, 2, and 3.
Today's Nintendo Direct also showcased the first teaser for Kingdom Hearts IV, along with announcements for titles Orbitals, Rayman Legends Retold, One Piece: Grand Gourmet, Hello Kitty Party Land, and Pikuniku 2.
The ports for Space Marine 2, DayZ, Rise of the Tomb Raider, and Final Fantasy XIV Online have been confirmed.
Although the star of the event was the long-awaited remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, Nintendo sent a clear message with this Direct: Switch 2 is no longer just a platform for exclusives. With a strong first-party catalog and the strongest support from external publishers to date, the new console is increasingly establishing itself as one of the main destinations for the biggest games in the industry in the coming years.
