Research by Ampere Analysis reveals that full remakes generate an average of 2.2x more revenue than remasters during the period from January 2024 to September 2025. The analysis covers 15 remakes and 27 remasters – a total of 72.4 million players spent approximately $1.4 billion across various platforms. There are several reasons for the higher income of remakes: high price (because they require more investment in development, marketing and time), while remasters have a faster deadline and lower cost, but less interest in playing by players. As an example, the remake and/or highly re-skinned remaster of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion attracted seven million players and revenues of around $180 million. For publishers, it is more than obvious that it is more profitable to invest in the development of remakes.
