Recon 2024, Croatia's largest fantasy, pop culture and gaming convention, will soon open its doors for a weekend that promises an unforgettable experience for fans of fantasy, cosplay, video games and East Asian culture. This year's Rikon, which will be held from October 11 to 13 in space Exportwood Rijeka, is about to be more spectacular than ever threatens, as always, brings a series of interesting lectures, panels, workshops, quizzes, competitions, games and tournaments. Especially this year, it has the honor to present a famous guest of world renown.
This year's guest of honor is Rikon Doug Cockle, an American voice actor best known for the voice role Geralt of Rivia in the mega-popular video game of the Polish giant CD Projekt Red "The Witcher", the game that was declared the game of the decade, and is enjoying its screen version on Netflix. In addition, Doug voices many video game characters, including “Baldur's Gate 3”, "Horizon Zero Dawn", "Alan Wake II" i "The First Descendant". In addition to video games, he also built his career on the stage and on major Hollywood productions such as the HBO series "Band of Brothers" and the film "Reign of Fire" where he starred alongside Christian Bale.
Visitors to Rikon will be able to meet Doug, get autographs, take a picture with him or even receive a personalized voice message. Doug will be a guest on the program at Friday and Saturday, and in addition to signing autographs, he will also participate in two panel discussions after which visitors will have the opportunity to ask him questions that have always interested them about the many video games he has worked on, the characters he has breathed life into, his voice acting and his career.

We highlight from the rich program panels, in which top domestic participants and moderators participate, and the topics will surely encourage the audience to discuss! For everyone who is thinking about how to turn their passion for video games into a career, Rikon has prepared a panel Careers in the Video Game Industry: The Road to Success, and for film buffs and lovers of classic science fiction, the top connoisseurs of the genre will discuss the state of the contemporary representation of the sci-fi genre on the screen in a panel called A Clash of Generations: From Sci-Fi Cult Classics to the Monopoly Metaverse. Visitors will be able to hear and discuss on the panel about what life is like between Croatia and East Asia, what are the cultural differences, and what are the similarities Croatian perspectives: Living between cultures. Panel Behind the scenes of the action: Stuntmen in the film industry brings a special insight into the world of stunts, the presentation of the first European stunt festival in Karlovac, and the whole event will be enhanced by a special international surprise guest! It is certainly worth noting that they are two panels dedicated to guest of honor Doug Cockle where visitors will have the opportunity to get to know the voice of Geralt of Rivia better and ask all the questions that have always interested them.
Like every year, Rikon also brings a number of interesting lectures that are definitely worth highlighting A legal view of artificial intelligence where Ivana Kunda will talk about how to translate the complexity of artificial intelligence into transparency, fairness and efficiency of legal provisions. Marin Karuza at the lecture Light: A window into the world of information will take visitors through the fascinating medium of light and its importance for the path of information from the source to our perception. Global warming has been our reality for a long time, and Dejan Durić will consider how art deals with it and what potential scenarios science fiction predicted in the lecture. Life after Global Warming: Climate Narratives in Contemporary Science Fiction. Mateja Olujić and Josip Balić will talk about what it's like to work in a small team on an ambitious video game in the lecture Working in a micro dev team with macro ambitions, and physicist Marina Manganaro will present a guide to parents on how to become a Pokemon teacher in the lecture Pokemon and Science.
For the youngest, Božica Bajčić will present a bilingual picture book "Klokic" about a strange creature protecting the forest from the island of Krk. The picture book is written in the original Čokavica spoken in Dobrinje and its surroundings, and has been translated into the Croatian literary language. Author Morea Banićević will present a book for children "Lost Mr. Kovač" in which various motifs of the fantasy and horror genres are intertwined and where the plot is based on the joint efforts of a family that needs to protect its youngest member.
Over the course of three days, Rikon prepares an ever-popular and rich quiz program where visitors will be able to strain their brains and express their knowledge in numerous topics. Thus, quizzes like The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit, Jurassic Park, The last survivor where quizzes will be able to test their knowledge of horror. In anticipation of the new season of the popular series, it is here Arcana quiz, and in the quiz Between the living and the dead visitors will be able to check how much they really know about the dark world of vampires.
