One of the leading publishing houses in the world of video games, Electronic Arts (EA), is reportedly facing a potential takeover that would make the company private and valuable 50 billion dollars.
According to sources like Wall Street Journal, investors like a private fund are in the game Silver Lake and the Saudi sovereign wealth fund, which could join forces to take control of EA. After the publication of this information, the value of EA shares increased by almost 15%.
If the deal goes through, EA would no longer have to publicly publish regular financial reports and answer to investors on a quarterly basis. On the other hand, the change in the ownership structure — especially the inclusion of Saudi Arabia — could open new discussions about the impact on game development itself and EA's business policy.
