Home / News / Destiny 2 is getting its last major live service update on June 9, 2026.

Bungie is ending active development on Destiny 2 and is turning to a new chapter for the studio.

Bungie has announced that Destiny 2 will receive its final live service content update on June 9, 2026. This marks the end of one of the longest-running chapters in modern online gaming, which began with the game's release on September 6, 2017.

The studio stated that after the expansion The Final Shape, it became clear that it was time for the world of Destiny to continue living beyond Destiny 2. Bungie now wants to turn to a "new beginning" and work on future games, while Destiny 2 will remain playable even after active development ends.

The final update will focus on keeping the game accessible and enjoyable for both returning and new players. Destiny 2 is currently available on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, and PC via Steam.
