How to best describe the game? Tombi! is a strange hybrid of 2D adventure with RPG elements. The world in which Tombi lives is ruled by piglets led by the 7 Evil Pigs. The adventure begins by chance. The piglets steal a golden bracelet from Tombi right at the start of the game! The goal is simple - to regain the memory!
Along with combat and exploration, there are also puzzles. The first one is, for example, related to thick fog. What to do to solve the problem? The solution is very simple. You need to pick up the tornado that is in the mailbox! By entering the menu, it is used, and voilà – after a short animation, the fog is gone.
The entire world is one huge playground just waiting to be explored. The locations you pass through are detailed and have a unique design. From the first few seconds of the introduction to the final scene, there is an element of surprise. The musical background only enhances the impression that this is the adventure of a lifetime.
RPG elements are noticeable right from the start. Tombi can learn various skills during the adventure, which make previously inaccessible locations available for exploration. Chests and secret places hide various items that help in progression. For example, standard green pants can be replaced with others that provide special abilities (higher jump and faster running). The same applies to weapons. The basic weapon is a blackjack, and later a boomerang can be used.
Boss fights are very different compared to other 2D games. Here, the goal is not to kill the bosses but to capture them. The prerequisite for the fight is finding the appropriate bags. They are scattered all over the continent. Each opens a surprise portal!
Although relatively short, Tombi is a strange title that is worth playing.
