Cleaning and restoring old cartridges turns into a relaxing virtual experience.

Cozy Game Restoration is a relaxing simulator in which players restore forgotten cartridges of old video games. Each item comes in the form of a mysterious package, which then needs to be carefully opened, old stickers and tape removed, dust and dirt cleaned off, ink, glue residue, and other signs of long use eliminated.

The game has no time limits or failure states, but relies on a calm pace and the satisfaction of bringing old games back to collectible condition. Each cartridge is procedurally dirtied, with random damage, visual details, and irregularities, so restorations may include cracked cases, faded stickers, scratches, stubborn glue remnants, or writing marks.

The goal is to gradually build a collection of 108 different fictional titles inspired by games from the 1980s to the early 2000s. In addition to basic examples, players will be able to seek rare regional variants, special illustrations, and different types of cases.

Cozy Game Restoration also includes collection-related tasks, rewards for room decoration, and cosmetic additions that allow players to shape their own display space for the restored games. A special part of the collection will consist of cartridges inspired by real indie games from Australia, New Zealand, and the rest of the world, among which the Abiotic Factor from Deep Field Games studio has been confirmed.

According to founder Adam Stormhardt, the game is envisioned as a love letter to the games many grew up with, as well as the moments shared with friends and family. Cozy Game Restoration is set to release on September 24, 2026, for PC via Steam, with support for Steam Deck and planned compatibility with a wider range of systems.
