Survival horror uses Hyper Reality technology and transforms the player's real space into part of a zombie apocalypse.

Into the Dead: Crimson Heights has been announced as a new survival horror from the well-known zombie series, and also as one of the more ambitious attempts to merge virtual and mixed reality. The game is being developed by PikPok, and its release is planned for 2027 for Hyper Reality on Meta devices and virtual reality via Steam.

The special feature of this release is the use of Hyper Reality technology, which allows players to scan their own play space. Real-world furniture is then transformed into architecture, cover, and other elements within the game, creating a more dynamic and personal horror experience. In other words, the living room is no longer just a play area, but potentially a dangerous zone in the midst of a zombie outbreak.

The game's storyline is set in the first hours of the outbreak in Walton City, the same environment previously showcased in the PC title Into the Dead: Our Darkest Days. Crimson Heights offers a separate perspective on the beginning of chaos, with an emphasis on stealth, tactical exploration, and first-person combat.

Mario Wynands, the director of PikPok, emphasized that the studio is constantly looking for new ways to create different and interesting experiences. Into the Dead: Crimson Heights therefore combines the tension of survival horror with the physical movement of players and a reactive space, which could be particularly appealing to virtual reality enthusiasts looking for something beyond the classic VR approach.
