Smite and Smite 2 bring different levels of innovation and improvement to the world of MOBA games. While the original Smite was built on Unreal Engine 3, Smite 2 uses the more advanced Unreal Engine 5, resulting in significant improvements in graphics, animations and visual effects.
Gameplay in Smite 2 retains the core combat mechanics, but introduces additional strategic depth with improvements to camera movement, a redesigned item system, and active abilities now available to all gods. The maps have also been improved, with new elements such as hidden grass and evolving jungle, while the Arena mode remains a classic PvP mode.
Most of the content from the original Smite will not directly carry over to Smite 2, but players will be rewarded for their achievements through the Divine Legacy and Legacy Gems systems. Smite 2 is available on multiple platforms, including PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC, and is currently in closed alpha. During 2025, the transition to free to play will take place.
Overall, Smite 2 refreshes and modernizes the original game, keeping its core while introducing new elements and improvements. Smite fans get a familiar experience with added layers of depth and strategy.
