Sony has removed the 60fps mode for Bloodborne using a DMCA report, once again disappointing players who have been waiting for an official update for this one for years FromSoftware classic. He was the first to publish this information Eurogamer, and modder i dataminer Lance McDonald confirmed on Bluesky platform that he was forced to remove the mod from the internet.

"February 21 2021. stvorio sam i published zakrpu who omogućuje da Bloodborne radi u 60 frames per second," napisao je McDonald. "Danas sam primio DMCA prijavu u ime by Sony Interactive Entertainment kojom se traži da uklonim links na mod, what sam sada i učinio."

McDonald's patch removed the 30fps cap, allowing for better performance on the PS4 Pro console in Boost Mode, where the game could run at 720p 60fps. The mod has been available since 2021, but Sony never released an official PS5 version of the game, causing many players to resort to unofficial solutions.

DMCA and the fight against the modding community

Sony's move reignites the debate over users' rights to modify purchased software. McDonald considered his work a proof of concept, and his patch later became key to the ShadPS4 emulator, which allows to run Bloodborne on PC in 1080p and 60fps with strong hardware.

Given that Nintendo has been using the DMCA as a tool against the modding scene for years, many are disappointed that Sony is following suit. This is all the more illogical because Bloodborne it remains locked on legacy hardware, while an official PS5 version or PC port would generate huge interest, especially after its success Elden Ringa.

What next for Bloodborne?

While some optimists believe Sony's reaction means yes Bloodborne is finally getting attention, the more pessimistic part of the fans thinks that we are in for an undesirable one Demon's Souls- stylistic rework that could change the original aesthetics of the game. Meanwhile, gamers are left with no solution other than to keep their old PS4 consoles or rely on unofficial emulators.
