On the occasion of 30 years since the release of the original PlayStation console, Sony has announced, i.e. confirmed, the official sales results from the PlayStation to the PlayStation 4.
- PlayStation – 102 million (from 1994 to 2006)
- PlayStation 2 – 160 million (since 2000)
- PlayStation 3 – 87 million (since 2006)
- PlayStation 4 – 117 million (as of 2013)
This made the PlayStation 2 the best-selling console in the history of the video game industry. The first closest competitor is the Nintendo Switch with 146.04 million copies sold. Of the remaining current consoles, the PlayStation 5 sold 65.6 million units as of 2020, while the Xbox Series X/S sold approximately 28.3 million units worldwide.
