In the future, Microsoft could enable free streaming of Xbox games from the cloud, but with one condition – players would have to watch ads before playing.
As he reports The Verge, the new model would work similarly to GeForce Now. Players would only be able to stream games they already own on their Xbox consoles, and each game launch would require watching about two minutes of commercials.
Of course, there are additional restrictions. In the test phase, playing is limited to 60 minutes per session and a maximum of five hours per month. This is far less than a standard subscription, but it is an option that would, in theory, be free.
This news comes after Microsoft officially launched Xbox Cloud Gaming out of beta. Streaming is now available within all Game Pass subscription levels, with increased resolution up to 1440p, although the game offering is not the same for all users. However, at the same time, the price of Game Pass Ultimate went up by 50%.
It remains to be seen whether this "free with ads" model will even appear in practice or will remain just an idea for testing.
