Nordcurrent Labs and Black Tower Basement have confirmed that Defender of the Crown: The Legend Returns will be released on August 13, 2026, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam and GOG. This is a return of the famous Amiga classic, this time in a version that offers three gameplay modes: Retro Mode with the original Amiga version, Classic Mode as a modernized reinterpretation with a new visual identity and smoother mechanics, and Kingdom Mode, a roguelite deck-builder with dice-based combat.
The goal of the game is to unite the kingdom by battling across the map and defeating three enemy lords in their fortresses. Players will clash with brigands, outlaws, and Norman forces, participate in tournaments, rescue Saxon ladies, loot gold, and besiege castles. The regions remain the same, but the events and encounters change with each new playthrough.
