The domestic studio Today's Games has prepared a demo version of their 2.5D platformer ReSetna for us. The studio, formed in 2023, consists of people who have already gained experience working on games like Serious Sam, Talos Principle, League of Legends, SCUM, and The Red Solstice. ReSetna is their debut game and was showcased during this year's Tokyo Game Show in Japan.

ReSetna is set in a sci-fi dystopian world in the style of metroidvania. Once a great civilization has fallen, and what remains of it survives under the so-called APEX. When a mysterious signal appears that drives robots to madness and aggression, ReSetna and her companion are sent to investigate the signal and its true purpose. On the way to the truth, you explore ruins, encounter fallen civilizations, and face challenges to uncover the truth that may require you to "reSet" the world yourself.

This Unity game looks juicy at first glance, meaning it is visually pleasing. The developers note that the game is still in development and that this is not its final version. As for the gameplay itself, combo moves and movement are fluid. You have three missions that lead to the final boss. The story in the game is intriguing, and you also have the opportunity to technically upgrade your character and develop skills. The action parts might be too difficult for casual players, which could deter some from this title at first, unless they receive a few forgiving hits from opponents for "motivation." However, perhaps the final version will offer more difficulty options for gameplay. The tutorial is solid but has its shortcomings, as does the UI interface. If you are not among "those who already know," you might get stuck on some parts of jumping obstacles, as the tutorial does not suggest that by holding the jump button longer, you can slightly extend your jump height. In some situations, the UI has overlapping text and symbols, resulting in reduced clarity. Also, if you are playing on a keyboard, you will likely need to better optimize your key layout. For example, I found blocking attacks more suitable on the E key than on the R key, but that might depend on the size of your hand.

Considering that these are people with experience in the gaming industry, I reviewed the demo of this title with a stricter eye. There is certainly room for improvement before the full version of the game is released, and the title seems both riskily ambitious and promising for fans of 2.5D platformers. The exact release date of the game has not yet been announced, but ReSetna is expected to be available in the first quarter of 2025 for Windows. Dates for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch will be announced later. You can try the demo on Steam here.
