A new Christmas platformer adventure is coming in September, and this time the goal is not to steal Christmas, but to save it.

One of the most famous Christmas characters is returning to the world of video games.

Publisher Outright Games and development studio Casual Brothers, in collaboration with Dr. Seuss Enterprises, have officially announced The Grinch 2: Saving Christmas. The sequel to the charming Christmas adventure will be released on September 18 for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and PC.

Unlike the classic story where the Grinch tried to steal Christmas from the residents of Whoville, the new sequel brings a completely different premise. After his heart grew three sizes, the Grinch now wants to prove that he has truly changed. His new goal will be to create the most beautiful Christmas tree that the residents of Whoville have ever seen, thus showing that he has become part of their community. To succeed in this, players will explore several familiar locations from the world of Dr. Seuss. The adventure leads through the Grinch's cave, Mt. Crumpit, the Who-Wood forest, and the very heart of Whoville, where they will need to collect decorations, discover hidden passages, and overcome numerous platforming obstacles.

Throughout the game, the Grinch also receives a whole range of interesting gadgets that will assist in exploration. Rocket Skates allow for quick movement, a Jetpack provides access to hard-to-reach places, while the Snowball Maker is used to freeze enemies and solve certain challenges. Along with these, players will use the Grinch's signature candy cane-shaped staff to break objects and find new decorations for the grand Christmas tree.

One of the biggest new features of the sequel is local co-op. In addition to being able to play the entire adventure solo, a second player can take on the role of the loyal dog Max, helping to solve puzzles, explore hidden locations, and assist the Grinch in saving Christmas. The developers emphasize that the game is primarily aimed at families and younger players, with simple controls, accessible mechanics, and a charming atmosphere inspired by the original Dr. Seuss books.

Although it won't compete with the biggest AAA titles of the fall, The Grinch 2: Saving Christmas could be an excellent choice for family gaming during the holiday season.

And honestly, it's hard to find a more fitting protagonist for the September warm-up before Christmas than the most famous holiday hater who has finally decided to become their greatest savior.
