Home / Previews / The new Harvest Moon has finally shown its open world.

The first trailer reveals an open world, exploration, romance, and farming in the most ambitious sequel of the series yet, arriving on September 24 this year.

The series that has defined farming simulations for decades is preparing for the biggest change in its history.

Publisher Natsume and studio IMAGICA GEEQ have released the first trailer for Harvest Moon: Echoes of Teradea, a new installment that introduces a large open world for the first time and places a significantly greater emphasis on exploration.

This time, players can expect a journey through the magical world of Teradea, where a peaceful farm life will soon be interrupted by a mysterious fog spreading from the Forest of Echoes. With increasingly frequent natural disasters and dangerous creatures roaming the wilderness at night, it will be up to the players to discover what is really happening and save the land from the impending threat. Although farming remains the heart of the series, Echoes of Teradea brings the biggest focus on exploration yet. Teradea will be a completely open world filled with caves, hidden islands, remote villages, and numerous secrets for players to uncover during their adventure. The new movement system will allow jumping, climbing ladders and vines, while animal companions will play an important role in exploration thanks to unique abilities such as breaking obstacles or reaching hard-to-access locations.

Of course, the social aspect that has always been one of the hallmarks of Harvest Moon will not be missing. The game features ten potential romance partners, five boys and five girls, with whom players can develop relationships, learn their stories, and ultimately build a life together. The large world also introduces a new camping mechanic. Since it will not be possible to explore the entire map in one day, players will be able to set up camps, prepare food, rest, and meet traveling merchants who offer rare items. Special attention is drawn to the so-called Power Statues, hidden locations that offer short challenges and puzzles. Completing them will release Power Wisps, the fruits of which will be used to increase stamina and unlock new abilities.

All of this is complemented by a story in which players will collaborate with familiar characters such as Harvest Goddess, inventor Doc Jr., and powerful Guardian Spirits in an attempt to stop the natural disasters threatening the entire kingdom. The open world is exactly what has been longed for this series for years. If the developers manage to retain the charm that made us fall in love with Harvest Moon while delivering quality exploration and a sense of adventure, Echoes of Teradea could become the biggest leap the franchise has made in the last twenty years.

Harvest Moon: Echoes of Teradea releases on September 24 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam.
