Wizards of the Coast has canceled the publishing contract with the studio Giant Skull for a new original Dungeons & Dragons action adventure. The game was first announced in June 2025, and the project was being developed by the studio founded by Stig Asmussen, the director of the Star Wars Jedi series and the game God of War III.
According to a statement from a representative of Wizards of the Coast, the company evaluates concepts at every stage of development. They added that they decided not to proceed with the early concept of Giant Skull, but that they still respect Asmussen and his team and value the continuation of their relationship.
The cancellation of the project occurred as part of a broader reorganization within Wizards of the Coast, which also included the closure of their subsidiary Atomic Arcade.
Asmussen stated that he enjoyed collaborating with Wizards of the Coast and that he is still in talks with them, as well as with other companies, about potential new publishing agreements. He added that everything is fine at Giant Skull.
Giant Skull was founded in 2023, after Asmussen's departure from Respawn Entertainment. The studio has been presented from the beginning as a team focused on high-budget action-adventure games, so it will be interesting to see which project they will turn to after the cancellation of the Dungeons & Dragons title.
